A creative hub, the Toronto
Writers' Centre (TWC), offers emerging and established writers
a quiet and professional environment in which to work. Inspired
by the success of similar writers' centres based in New York
City, TWC is the first of its kind in Canada. Centrally located
in the Annex, TWC is open 24/7 including holidays. Members are
issued a security key. Our staff is on site from 9 am to 5 pm,
Monday to Friday.
Users of TWC enjoy a supportive
environment - an incubator for literary endeavours - where new
ideas can be stimulated and nurtured among a vibrant cross section
of writers. With an expansive writing space, lounge and kitchen,
the Toronto Writers' Centre provides writers with a place in
which to focus their efforts, be part of a community of writers,
as well as an opportunity to take part in readings and workshops.
All of this for about $4.00 per day!
TWC is founded and operated
by MEK Inc., under the direction of Mitch
Kowalski. A writer at heart, Mitch is a former product director
for the largest title insurer in Canada. Before that, he was
a practicing lawyer in Toronto for 14 years. He received a B.A.
(Honours) in Political Science, a M.A. in Political Science and
an LL.B., all from the University of Western Ontario. Later he
also received an LL.M. from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
He is a freelance writer and has authored a legal text as well
as a number of articles for legal journals, magazines and national
newspapers. Mitch is passionate about writing, and is currently
working on his first novel. |
